deSter becomes a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s CE100 network
deSter, a gategroup member and a leading designer and producer of innovative food packaging and serviceware concepts to the aviation, hospitality and foodservice industry, is proud to announce it has now joined the Circular Economy 100 (CE100) Network, an initiative by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
The Circular Economy 100 (CE100) Network, provides a pre-competitive space to learn, share knowledge, and put ideas into practice. The Foundation works on a strategic level with influential businesses across key sectors of the economy to demonstrate circular innovation at scale.
Today, more than ever before, designing food packaging and serviceware goes far beyond optimizing functionality and looks. It’s about transforming a linear economy into a circular one. This however takes more than just good intentions alone. Developing truly sustainable products however encompasses a lot more than just using eco-materials to produce them.
That’s why deSter is committed to developing sustainable products from the bottom up. Today, every new product the company designs and manufactures is assessed from an environmental point of view, taking into consideration not only the material it is made of but most importantly its complete life-cycle and its end of life scenario.
“Looking at the ecological challenges the world is facing today, we believe a clear vision and long-term dedication is required in order to preserve our world for generations to come. We profoundly believe the Ellen MacArthur Foundation is an incredible powerful catalyst for environmental change and fully support its vision towards achieving a circular economy. Becoming an official member therefore does not only underscore our commitment and ambition towards making sustainable impact at scale, it also provides a valuable platform to share ideas and keep pushing the envelope when it comes to sustainable innovation”says Stef Van de Perre, Managing Director deSter.
“To emphasize our commitment, we have set some ambitious goals for ourselves. As of 2020 we aim for 100% of our new product launches to be made of recyclable, recycled or renewable sources that can be reused, recycled or composted. By 2025 all of our products will be reused, recycled or composted” Van de Perre continuous.
All of deSter’s new product developments follow the circular economy design guidelines which is reflected by the company’s ECD philosophy. ECD stands for Environmentally Conscious Design and encompasses all of deSter’s actions towards developing sustainable products. It’s this holistic mind-set that makes for the mere foundation of all of the company’s future developments and emphasises deSter’s aspiration to contribute towards building a better world.
