TRANSAVIA INTRODUCES PLASTIC FREE CUP DEVELOPED BY DESTER

As of December 2019 Transavia, the European Low Cost airline, will introduce a plastic free, 100% soil biodegradable coffee cup developed by deSter. This development is an airline industry first and truly underscores Transavia’s pioneering role in implementing onboard sustainable solutions.

Traditional paper cups still use a plastic liner to prevent liquid content from leaking. This however makes them notoriously difficult to recycle and not suitable for composting.

After a dedicated R&D trajectory, deSter successfully engineered a cup with an innovative bio-based biodegradable liner, replacing the traditional plastic liner.

This cutting-edge sustainable development makes the cup fully compostable under natural conditions (soil biodegradable) without the need for commercial composting and significantly enhances its recyclability.

The new biodegradable liner is made from a renewable bio-based material and just breaks down naturally in case it should end up in a landfill.

The paper used to produce the cup is FSC certified ensuring the wood is sourced from sustainable managed forests and has been certified by independent experts to hold the Plastic Free trust mark.
